Los Angeles Mission event to features foot washing and shoe giveaway

The Los Angeles Mission will hold its annual Easter Event on Good Friday, April 6, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mission staff

and volunteers will wash the feet of the homeless. Easter Week foot washing is a Christian tradition memorializing that Jesus washed the feet of his disciples the night before he was crucified. This outreach continues the Mission effort to treat the men, women and children it serves with respect and dignity. The Los Angeles Mission Medical Clinic uses this opportunity to address the foot problems suffered by many on the streets of Skid Row.

Many who are on the streets seldom have normal loving human contact and this outreach of food, foot washing with podiatric care and new shoes is a way of inviting them to learn about the Missions services, including its long term program of restoration in order to get off the streets permanently.

Over 2,000 pairs of new shoes will be given to the homeless. Etnies, the worlds leading Action Sports footwear and apparel manufacturer, is donating the shoes, and will have their staff on hand to ensure a proper fit for everyone.

More than 500 homeless children are expected and each will receive an Easter bag full of candy and surprises. A special Easter meal will also be served.
Food service will begin at 11 a.m. and foot washing at 11:30 a.m. The Los Angeles Mission is located on 5th and Wall Streets. The entire block of 5th Street between Wall and San Pedro Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic. Street closures start at 6 a.m.
