CPMA Bestows Lifetime Achievement Award on Favorite Son Oliver “Ollie” S. Foster, DPM

“For His Outstanding Service, Leadership and Many Contributions to the Profession, I am truly proud to recognize one of the true giants of our field, an esteemed doctor devoted to the patients and practice of podiatric medicine, Oliver S. Foster," said California Podiatric Medical Association (CPMA) President Tracy L. Basso, DPM, during the award presentation at the Association’s 94th Annual House of Delegates.  The award ceremony included a slide and video show of Dr. Foster and accolades from such leaders of the profession as Jon A. Hultman, DPM, MBA; Eric Hubbard, DPM, FACFAS; and Stephen Wan, DPM, FACFAS.

“Ollie’s middle initial is S, which must in his case surely stand for “Service”.  He has tirelessly served this Association and the profession as a whole for over 45-years in a wide variety of roles.

He has held nearly every leadership position in the Association, from President of the Los Angeles County Podiatric Medical Society, to Director on the CPMA Board, where through hard work and diligence he advanced through the chairs to become President of CPMA from 1977 to 1978.  The year following his CPMA Presidency Dr. Foster was elected President of the National Podiatric Medical Association, which he also served with distinction from 1978 to 1978.  For nearly a decade Dr. Foster served as a Trustee of the California College of Podiatric Medicine (CCPM) Board of Trustees, and was a clinical off-campus instructor at the college for eight years.  For more than a quarter of a century Ollie has served on PPAC [Podiatry Political Action Committee], serving as its Chair for nearly half that time.

"Dr. Foster has garnered numerous awards, including this Association's highest award California Podiatric Physician of the Year, APMA's Distinguished Service Award and the California College of Podiatric Medicine's Medal of Honor.  We are pleased that he will be adding CPMA’s Lifetime Achievement Award to this distinguished list.

“Known for his gregarious nature, devotion, zealous enthusiasm and his ever-present smile Ollie has been a dynamic leader in his profession on the local, state and national levels.  His extensive legislative knowledge and experience has been invaluable to our legislative efforts. Ollie’s career has been one of continuous contributions to others in his profession and in his community,” continued President Basso.  “The profession and this Association owe him a great debt of gratitude.”

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Foster received his medical training at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree in 1960, and has been in private practice for forty-five year.  Dr. Foster practices in Los Angeles, California, where he also resides with his wife Judith, to whom he has been married for forty-one years.  They have two daughters Kelly and Lisa and three grandchildren.

The California Podiatric Medical Association includes nearly 1,000 doctors of podiatric medicine throughout the state. Founded in 1912 as a professional medical association, CPMA exists “to promote, advance and protect the profession of podiatric medicine, to preserve the rights of the patients it serves and to seek continuous improvement in the quality of patient treatment and care.” For more information on CPMA, call at 1-800-794-8988, or visit www.podiatrists.org.
