Davis Doctor Elected President of the California Podiatric Medical Association

Tracy L. Basso, DPM, of Davis California was elected President of the California Podiatric Medical Association (CPMA) during the organizations 93rd annual House of Delegates at the Disneyland Hotel in June.  Dr. Basso will preside over the state's leading professional medical society for foot and ankle specialists through May 2006.  The nearly 100-year old organization represents over 1,000 doctors of podiatric medicine (DPMs) from the California-Oregon border to California's border with Mexico.

In his first address to the leadership of California's podiatric medical community, Dr. Basso noted the important role podiatric medicine plays in keeping Californians on their feet --active and healthy.  He pointed out the tremendous positive health benefits derived from walking, including reducing obesity, hypertension, depression, heart disease and diabetes.

Dr. Basso has been a member of CPMA for over 16 years. During that time he has made substantial contributions to the leadership of the Association, including serving as President of the Sacramento Valley Podiatric Medical Society before being elected as a Director-at-Large to the CPMA Board of Directors, on which he has also served as Secretary-Treasurer, Vice President and President-Elect, in addition to chairing a number of committees.

A board certified foot surgeon specializing in foot and ankle injuries and disorders, Dr. Basso has offices in both Davis and Woodland.  He serves on the medical staffs of Sutter Davis Hospital, Davis Surgery Center and Woodland Memorial Hospital.

After completing his undergraduate work at the University of California, Davis, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in physiology, Dr. Basso earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree in 1988 from San Francisco's California College of Podiatric Medicine (CCPM).   Dr. Basso is a  Diplomat of both the American Board of Podiatric Surgery (ABPS) and the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics (ABPOPPM).  He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) as well as the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine (ACFAOM).

Dr. Basso and his wife Mary reside in Davis with their five children.
