Abraham Lincoln once said, “ When my feet hurt, I can’t think.” Most people can empathize with President Lincoln’s dilemma.  And there is no worse time to have aching feet than when on a vacation.

Orange County is known as the “Land of Vacations,” as hundreds-of-thousands of vacationers from around the world come each year to experience the area’s miles of magnificent beaches, hike and bike its many trails, and of course visit its famous theme parks.

Feet play an especially important role in the active outdoor life-style of both visitors and residents alike in the Orange County area.

Tennis Toe, golfers heel, walkers arch and runners ankle have become increasingly common terms as people have become more active – and sports medicine has continued to find new ways to diagnose and treat the aliments.

Investing in the right athletic shoe for the right sport before beginning an exercise program is important.  But for many, painful feet can be the sign something far more serious is afoot.

Foot problems are often associated with abnormal conditions in other parts of the body, both systemic and skeletal such as in back disorders, diabetes, kidney aliments and anemia.

Unfortunately, major foot problems can result when people attempt to diagnose and cure their own foot ailments or neglect their feet altogether.

Foot problems can be particularly troublesome for the elderly.  The quality of life degenerates rapidly for the person who is unable to move about freely.   Doctors of podiatric medicine help keep older patients on their feet and active, which is critically important to overall health.

Doctors of podiatric medicine are specialists treating a unique and well-used engineering marvel.  Every day the average person logs 10,000 footsteps on what is a complex combination of 26 bones, 33 joints and 107 ligaments, all linked by an intricate network of muscles, nerves, blood vessels and skin.  They are the only medical specialists who are educated, trained, licensed and certified for the exclusive treatment of the foot and ankle.
