Kase Receives CPMA’s First Pinnacle Award

CPMA Executive Director Jon Hultman, DPM, MBA, CVA presents Franklin Kase, DPM, FACFAS with the Association's first Pinnacle Award

The California Podiatric Medical Association bestowed the organization’s first Pinnacle Award on Past President Franklin Kase, DPM, Chair, Health Policy Committee, during the association’s 2018 House of Delegates this past June in Anaheim, California.

A member of CPMA for 41 years, Dr. Kase has made substantial contributions to the leadership of the Association, chairing several committees, serving as a director-at-large, treasurer, vice president, president-elect and 2003-2004 CPMA President.

In his service to CPMA, California’s podiatric physicians and their patients, Dr. Kase has played prominent leadership roles in legislative victories that included the modernization of California’s podiatric practice act (AB 932) which clarified and expanded the surgical scope of podiatric physicians to include the ability to perform amputations, history and physical exams, and to assist in non-podiatric surgeries.

Dr. Kase has also been instrumental in changing the way insurance companies treat podiatric physicians in California, helping to eliminate discrimination against them by private insurance companies, indemnity insurance companies, and preferred provider organizations.

He was key to the recent decisions by both Anthem and Health Net to rescind proposed modifier 25 policies, which if implemented, would have cut reimbursement of an evaluation and management service with modifier 25 by 50 percent when billed with a minor surgical procedure or a preventive visit.

Already the recipient of numerous CPMA awards, including being twice named California’s Podiatric Physician of the Year and receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, Distinguished Service Award, Meritorious Service Award, and Volunteer of the Year Award among many others (a list is far too lengthy to include in its entirety here), Dr. Kase now adds CPMA’s first ever Pinnacle Award to his extensive awards roster.

A private practitioner in Burbank, California for over 40-years, Dr. Kase is a board certified podiatric physician. He is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM). Dr. Kase is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine (ACFAOM), and the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM).

A graduate with honors of the California College of Podiatric Medicine (CCPM), Dr. Kase earned his Bachelor of Science degree in zoology (with honors) from George Washington University in Washington, DC. He has been listed in Who's Who in American Colleges & Universities.

A teacher, author, and lecturer, Dr. Kase is an avid runner. He has completed marathons and is active in community service. He has been married to his wife Beth, a healthcare attorney, for over 40 years, and they have two daughters.
