April is Foot Health Awareness Month
Apr 01, 2014 - May 01, 2014

The old nursery rhyme goes, “the foot bone’s connected to the ankle bone, the ankle bone’s connected to the leg bone, the leg bone’s connected to the hip bone, the hip bone’s connected to the backbone..." Thus, it should be remembered that the foot cannot be considered isolated from the rest of the body. Any abnormality of the foot could have negative effects further up the body, altering posture and walking ability, similar to the way that a poor foundation can cause general structural problems and instability to a building.

Maintaining and caring for a child’s feet will benefit their health, mobility, and well-being throughout their entire lives. The focus of this year’s National Foot Health Awareness Month is to keep the feet of children – from infant to young adult – in the best condition possible. The California Podiatric Medical Association (CPMA) in conjunction with the American Medical Association (APMA) has put together information to help parents keep kids’ feet healthy and happy.
