World Diabetes Day (WDD) is November 14, the birthday of Frederick Banting who along alongside Charles Best discovered Insulin in 1922. WDD became an official United Nations Day in 2007 with the passage of United Nations Resolution 61/255

Jointly introduced by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), World Diabetes Day is a global diabetes awareness campaign created amidst mounting concern over an escalating worldwide diabetes epidemic and its devastating effects, including nerve damage and ulcers of the feet which leads to amputations; kidney failure; loss of vision; increase in risk of heart attack and stroke. The 2012 WDD Campaign is titled Protect Our Future.
