PQRS: The 2014 PQRS Program Year Ends Dec. 31

Jan 01, 2014 - Dec 31, 2014 11:00 PM

The Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) is a quality reporting program by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that uses a combination of incentive payments and payment adjustments to promote reporting of data on quality measures. The Value-Based Payment Modifier (VM) program assesses quality and cost performance and provides physicians with this data. The VM is based on participation in PQRS. Under the VM, physicians are subject to upward, neutral, or downward payment adjustments based on quality of care furnished and the cost of that care under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

Failure to report in 2014 will result in a 2-percent payment adjustment in 2016 under PQRS for all physicians, plus another 2-percent payment adjustment under the VM for group practices with 10 or more eligible professionals.

Although the 2014 PQRS program years ends Dec. 31, physicians have until the end of Feb. or March 1 2015 to report data on quality measures to Medicare. Submission deadlines vary depending on reporting method.
